Hotel Vedado is part of a hotel complex composed of 3 different hotels: Vedado, Saint John's and Flamingo. The latter is connected to the Vedado. Saint John´s stands by itself only a few meters away.
The hotel complex enjoys a privileged location in the heart of the district of Vedado, perhaps the most interesting (culturally speaking) and centric district in the city after the historic center of Old Havana (La Habana Vieja).
All three offer similar standards and facilities distinguished by maybe only a few aspects. Hotel Vedado for example features a swimming pool that is shared with its partner buildings while "El Pico Blanco", a popular night club, is on Hotel Saint John's tallest level.
Small and not exactly chic or luxurious they were all built in the 50's. Today they feature rather basic accommodation. Rooms are dated, cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired, air conditioners are noisy or don't work properly, and issues like lack of hot water or water pressure in bathrooms can occur depending on your room assignation.
(When you book it is important to remember that the three hotels work together as a complex, so you could be allocated to any of the three buildings even if you booked "Vedado". So if you are exclusively interested in staying at one of them, you must point this out strongly).
This said, we must stress that location is everything since the hotels are only a few meters from “La Rampa”, a section of the popular 23rd street, and within walking distance from all of Vedado district's bars, clubs, movie theaters, shops, craft markets...
El Malecón is also very close. Havana's beautiful and lively seaside promenade / avenue is an ideal place to spend time, enjoy the sea breeze and mix in with the local people.
