Paseo Habana is a small hotel located on a quiet street of the residential neighborhood of Vedado, away from the buzz of Old Havana and all the tourists, but not far from it.
Vedado is a very nice neighborhood, very safe day and night. There are many theaters, hospitals + some good restaurants and bars (many of the latter two are private so one needs to know them in order to find them), and is a real pleasure to walk through it since there are many trees shading the sidewalks and also many beautiful old houses.
One of these colonial mansions, with marble floors and stairways, houses today Hotel Paseo Habana. Its main virtue being the nice colonnaded veranda, where breakfast is served in the mornings, which invites guests and passersby to sit and enjoy a drink.
Rooms are spread among its 3 floors and are spacious, with large wardrobes / closets, large bathrooms and French windows which overlook the city, the sea and the cardiac hospital which stands across the street. They are pretty essential, with almost no bath amenities and with basic furniture, but clean and comfortable.
Staff is very nice and friendly, and since this is a small, cozy hotel they are a lot closer to guests than in bigger hotels, and they try to please much harder.
Breakfast is nothing to write home about but it is adequate.
Internet is available at the lobby but the conection is slow. Cards are 3CUC each for half an hour.
All in all, a good value and a reasonable alternative to hotels downtown.
