In the very heart of the city of Cienfuegos, hotel La Union is housed in a marvelously restored colonial mansion located on a boulevard, just a block away from the José Martí park, the core of the city.
It's a small hotel featuring only 49 rooms, a nice colonial feel, helpful-friendly staff and a fantastic pool located in an interior courtyard, with tiled bottom, columns and a bar; an excellent place to relax after a day of strolling in the heat. And guests can even have their drinks and food delivered to the loungers!
The open-air central courtyard bar is another great space to hang out and relax as well as the "Venus Negra" roof top bar and terrace on the 4th floor, with amazing views of the city and the bay. The lift has been broken for quite a while though, so be ready to use the stairs (luggage will be taken up stairs by the staff).
Rooms are nicely furnished in an elegant neoclassical style; they are clean and comfortable but beware if you are sensitive to noise, the ones in the front tend to be loud, especially during the weekends.
There is a small shop that sells drinks and souvenirs, a mini-pharmacy and 2 PC's for internet in the lobby (very slow connection). There's no animation or practically anything to do at night but you can find many bars in the area that do offer live music.
All in all, a very attractive place to spend a night or two in the center of the beautiful city of Cienfuegos.
