Catedral de la Purísima Concepción

Located right across from the emblematic Park Martí, it is regarded as the city’s cathedral and occupies an interesting construction with a neoclassical façade in which feature the presence of two bell towers of different heights and French style windows dispersed throughout its structure. The church traces its origins back to 1833 although it has over the course of time received many improvements.

It was consecrated Holy Church Cathedral on the 20th of February 1903 and in its high altar were laid the relics of the saints Pío and Emérita. Ever since its beginnings as a parish church this temple was dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, patron saint of the Cienfuegos Dioceses, whose festivity is celebrated on the 8th of December making it the oldest and most representative feast for the people of Cienfuegos.
