Teatro Tomás Terry

Located in the historical core of the city, in the vicinities of Park Martí, it was recognized as National Monument in 1978 due to all the remarkable qualities mustered in the exteriors and interiors of the edifice.

Its façade corresponds to the architectonic style of eclecticism, and this is one of the most gorgeous theaters in the country which along with its parallels: the Sauto in Matanzas, La Caridad in Santa Clara, form the trilogy of grand theaters existent in the island that can trace their origins back to the XIX century.

Its striking theater hall that corresponds to Italian typology was designed as a horseshoe shaped hall, where the public is seated at 4 levels always facing the presented spectacle.

At the top of its principal façade one can highlight the presence of three artistic mosaics from the Venetian house Salvatti with the decorated masks of the Muses: Thalia, of comedy; Euterpe, of music; and Melpomene, of tragedy; constituting the sole representation of Byzantine art in the island.

This institution was officially inaugurated on the 12th of February 1890, and is today a symbol of culture in Cienfuegos.
