Restaurant Waco Club

Although the name of the establishment suggests a members-only leisure club, it actually refers to a private run restaurant managed by the family of an important figure of Cuban sport: Roberto “el Waco” Ojeda, who for nearly twenty years was the coxswain in rowing boats that competed representing the island in international sporting events. The restaurant is located quite close to the well-known Park Josone; it is set on the ground floor of a family home, and has been decorated to produce as much a likeness as possible to a rowing club.

They serve the most authentic creole meals: bean pottages, black beans and congri rice, pork meats, tubers fried in chips or cooked served with mojo sauce, etc.; though the real prestige of the place has been earned by its variety in marine specialties: fish, shellfish and the like. It is routinely highly ranked on the most important travel site forums when visitors comment their Varadero experiences.

The prices are usually a tad higher than those regularly found in the island but befitting of any good restaurant of its type in Europe and the United States.
