Built in the third decade of the XIX century, it stands on a plaza that borrowed its name from the church.

It is the only catholic temple in Camagüey to boast two towers in its structure, and was the fourth ever built with such characteristics in Cuba.

Worthy of note is the mannerist influence in the design of its façade, which more or less corresponds to the predominant tradition in Jesuit churches.
