The edifice was built towards the end of the XVIII century and now hosts the Museum Birth Home of José María Heredia, considered the first romantic poet in América.

The site exhibits documents, paintings and other relics, a collection recently enriched by donations made by the great-grandchildren of Heredia, residents of Santiago de Cuba.
