Casino Campestre

The Casino Campestre is rated as the urban park of greatest dimensions in Cuba with its more than 100,000 square meters. This is an expansive green area situated on the verge of the Camagüey city center where one can appreciate a great many copses of precious timber-yielding species and delight in the scenery and breeze at one’s disposal under their shade.

On view, scattered throughout its extension, are some vivid examples of Cuban statuary culture, with small monuments dedicated to heroes of the nation’s various independence struggles, as well as some pretty singular constructions like a huge dovecot shaped like a lamp that constitutes a tribute to the national alphabetization campaign of 1961.

The park houses the main sporting facilities in the city.

It was founded in 1860 thanks to the efforts of Camagüey civil society personalities who sought to procure a spot in town to hold agricultural fairs as well as industrial products and manufactured goods expos. Nowadays it harbors in its grounds the facilities of a little zoo.
