Chorro de Maita and its Aboriginal Museum is located on the site of the largest aboriginal burial site thus far discovered in the Caribbean (almost 200 skeletons have been unearthed).

It is thought that a large Indian village called Bani once occupied this site; which today is considered a national monument. A life-sized model Indian village called the Aldea Taína has been recreated.
