Gibara

Also known by the nickname “Villa Blanca” (the White Town), this is a small coastal town in the province of Holguín founded at the dawning of the XIX century, thus enabling the visitor to appreciate a nice sample of the colonial architecture the Spaniards advanced across the island.

Some scholars affirm that it was by way of Gibara and not through the bay of Bariay where the expedition commanded by Great Admiral Christopher Columbus on October 28, 1492, actually disembarked when they sighted Cuban lands for the first time.

This fishing village is located next to a deep bay that is deemed the most comfortable harbor in the whole northeast of the island.
