Attractions in Santiago de Cuba

Restaurant “El Morro”

A site of privilege for the steady stream of customers given its proximity to the Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca, the Santiago Morro Castle, that guarantees visitors always pass by on their way to that marvelous place, widely regarded as one of the main attractions in the city.

The restaurant is set on a construction that served as the dwelling of the guard standing sentinel at the entrance of the Santiago bay for several centuries, up until the 60’s of the past century, when it was restored and dedicated to providing gastronomic service to visitors at the Morro Castle.

Always particularly noted is the meticulous effort put in to transforming the place, thanks to its décor and furnishings, into a remnant of the past that serves as companion to the adjoining fortress. The tables are set in the old Spanish manner of the colonial era: earthenware bowls and jugs, large polished wood tables, the meals served directly on the table with no tablecloth in the style of old taverns, clay tiling of the floors etc, all these attributes aimed at achieving that purpose.

Its menu is a creole combination of typical Cuban dishes, to which they have added some delicious recipes from the international cuisine too.
