Hotel Sol Cayo Santa María is a 4* all-inclusive beach resort located on Cayo Santa María, a key on the north of the province of Villa Clara that together with Cayo Coco & Cayo Guillermo forms the archipelago Jardines del Rey.
Cayo Santa María not only features a gorgeous beach, but also its wild green vegetation and rich variety of endemic fauna make this region, declared a biosphere reserve, rank as one of the most exotic areas of the whole Caribbean.
Access to the key is through a 48Km road from the town of Caibarién on the main island. The drive from the airport is kind of long, especially if one is tired after a flight, but it can be really interesting if the guide does a good job giving information about the area and the road itself.
The resort is not very big (300 rooms) so it provides a quiet and relaxing atmosphere, and everything is near. It is a bit dated so one should be prepared for not so new furniture, the lack of bulbs here and there, noisy aircons…
But the beach is lovely, and great for snorkeling. It offers many sunbeds and even a topless area. Rooms are spread among villas or bungalows providing good privacy, thanks to their layout. Food is simple but one can always find something fresh and tasty, if not very demanding in this regard. Staff is super friendly, warm and smiling.
All in all, a nice, relaxing place to stay. Recommended for families, couples and solo travelers alike.
