Hotel Faro Luna is a quiet, picturesque hotel of 46 rooms that rises in an idyllic setting in the outskirts of Cienfuegos, about 20km from the center of the city and only steps away from Rancho Luna beach and from the dolphin aquarium.
Its main virtue is precisely its location, between the sea and the mountains, added to the good snorkel and diving.
The beach is protected by a coral reef so snorkeling is near and easy to get to. There are about 32 sites including caves, sunken ships, profuse marine life and dazzling coral gardens. Also, from November to February harmless whale sharks frequent these waters.
For these reasons Hotel Faro Luna is quite popular among divers. Also popular among those in search of a peaceful, relaxing place; not so much by young people looking to party, since it's not a party hotel at all!
There is day and night entertainment though, but most things happen during the day at the pool or beach, the latter only 200m away. Other than that and the dolphin aquarium there is nothing nearby so perhaps bringing games, books and music would be a good idea.
Hotel Faro Luna is not architecturally beautiful and definitely needs a re do (construction dating from Soviet Union era). It’s not sophisticated either, only adequate for guests who want a more rural setting.
Rooms however, though kind of shabby, are comfortable, spacious, and all of them offer fabulous views of the sea from the balconies. Sunsets are spectacular and at night one can watch the stars while listening to the sound of the waves.
The pool is nice and overlooks the beach. Staff is very friendly. Food is adequate at best, but breakfasts are OK.
There is a small shop that sells drinks, bathing suits, flip flops and the like. Nowhere else to buy anything hence guests should bring everything that could possibly be needed: beach towels, toiletries, snacks…
A visit to Cienfuegos, whose city center was declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005 is a must. And excursions to Trinidad, El Nicho, etc, offered at the tour desk, are highly recommended!
