El Hotel Colón, which has served as a hotel since 1926, stands on one of the main arteries of the city of Camagüey. A lovely restored Spanish Colonial building built around an interior terrace with a gorgeous mahogany bar, colonial tile floor, lofty ceilings and elegant furnishing.
A charming old reception greets the guests and a marble staircase leads to the rooms, which are very clean, feature high ceilings and fairly elegant fixtures. However, many are really small and some are interior (no windows). Most of them overlook the pretty open-air colonial patio though, and there are spacious and nice rooms too, just have to get lucky.
Staff is friendly and attentive.
All in all, an excellently located hotel, location wise perfect to explore the city of Camagüey, overflowing with charm and charisma even if offering no luxuries.
