Club Kawama is an all-inclusive 3* resort located right on the beach and offering a beautiful view of Varadero's canal. It is also very close to Varadero's downtown, its picturesque craft market, and many of the restaurants and bars.
This proximity to everything there is to see together with the excellent strip of beach are the biggest pluses of the resort because while in photos it looks like a charming resort with the looks of a traditional Spanish hacienda, its 336 rooms spread among 25 colorful houses of 2 stories each that are surrounded by beautiful gardens, the truth is that facilities are very neglected.
The hotel was built in 1930 and restored in 2000 so a need for revamping is totally understandable, but there are also stray dogs in the restaurants, broken sun beds, broken tiles, holes in the floor of the pool area…
Same for the rooms, there is broken furniture, broken tiles and showers in the bathrooms, nonfunctional hair dryer or TV sets, loose plugs, not so comfortable pillows (bringing one's own is probably a good idea), and some smell of mold.
The food is limited but one will certainly not starve, especially considering the many cheap restaurants within walking distance, which we recommend visiting if you choose this hotel.
In short, Villa Kawama is an appropriate hotel for those who have a tighter budget and don't need any luxuries whatsoever, just a place to sleep at nights and a gorgeous beach on a great location.
