El Rey Archeological Zone

It is one of the most important archaeological sites in Cancun where you can learn more about the history of the region through 47 ruins of ancient palaces, ceremonial buildings and market areas; of the wall paintings and drawings of rituals that are still preserved and that belonged to an early period of Mayan settlement apparently dedicated to maritime trade and fishing (between 1200 and 1550 AD)

Its name is due to the discovery during the excavations in 1975 of the tomb, apparently of a king, for the bracelet and other bone and snail ornaments, as well as a copper ax. It is currently preserved in the Mayan Museum of Cancun.
