From its privileged location on the edge of the old town, with a great view of the Capitol building, El Parque de la Fraternidad, Cuba’s most important opera and ballet house (the gorgeous Gran Teatro de la Habana), and right across from the famous Partagás cigar factory, stands the elegant XIX Century Hotel Saratoga, revealing the city life in all its decaying, bustling and musical beauty.
The building, orginally from 1879, only had three stories. It was expanded between 1915 and 1925 and in the 1930's it reached its best moment, mainly due to its renowned “Aires Libres”, open-air entertainment and concerts given by the famous female orchestra "Anacaona", among others.
Since it reopened in 2005 many prestigious guests have visited, including legendary guitarist Jimmy Page and pop phenom Beyoncé.
It features 96 elegant rooms with French windows, doors of tropical precious wood and traditional balconies with elaborate ironwork. The Junior Suites offer nice views of the Capitol building, Havana’s Central Park and Partagás cigar factory.
Its neoclassical façade and stylish facilities such as the Mezzanine bar, the rooftop bar and pool (probably the hotel's best feature due to the fantastic views), and a good functioning wifi make this hotel a fine place to stay, even more if you consider its location, at walking distance from everything's there is to see in Old Havana.
Saratoga is undoubtedly one of the best hotels in town (it was voted one of the region’s top hotels by Condé Nast Traveller), and we highly recommend it to those looking for top-level accommodation in the city of columns.
