Memories Holguín Beach Resort (formerly Hotel Riu Playa Turquesa) is a 4* ecological hotel of 531 rooms resting on the beautiful beach Yuraguanal, in the province of Holguín, eastern part of the island.
The typical geography of the area has been carefully preserved as one of its most precious values. The building recalls the Spanish country estate of the end of the 19th century. The living colors of the Cuban Caribbean area nicely mixed with the beautiful singing of the endemic birds and the sea breeze.
One of the most appealing features of the resort is the fabulous swimming pool area, with several pools cascading into each other. There is too a swim-up bar and plenty of loungers, also at the beach (finding a chair is never an issue). The grounds are beautifully kept, there’s lots of vegetation everywhere. Rooms are spacious and very clean... But the best feature of this hotel is actually its staff: hard working, warm, friendly and highly professional.
Food is quite good as well, according to most guests. The buffet has a nice variety and excellent service; the 4 a la carte restaurants are also pretty adequate and a nice change from the buffet (try to book them as soon as you check in to make sure you try at least one of them).
A couple of things worth mentioning:
- There are lots of stairs, making it not so ideal for guests with any mobility issues, although it features ramps connecting most areas and a shuttle service is available.
- It is not very well illuminated in some areas.
- There are 8 tennis courts, night lit.
- There's also a cigar bar, a perfect place to savor a Cuban cigar while enjoying an excellent rum.
All in all, a truly beautiful place with excellent service and many little details making a difference.
