The Gran Hotel Camaguey by Melia is located in a 5-storey colonial building, built in 1939 and of significant architectural value, in a very centric position by the old quarter of the city, where the historic centre is.

For many years, the best hotel in the city, hosted international celebrities like the American writer Ernest Hemingway, the Mexicans actors Jorge Negrete and Mario Moreno (Cantinflas) as well as Cuba's National Poet Nicolás Guillén, prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, Cuban singer Rita Montaner... among others.

Nowadays, it still retains its old charm and grandeur, starting with the lobby and the original elevator built of precious wood.

The pleasant atmosphere of this hotel, where its antique dark woodworks stands out, as in its piano bar, its fresh courtyard with tropical plants and a fountain, a nice place to relax, its good service and its proximity to all the city's main attractions, make it a favorite option for many visitors.

Rooms are medium to small in size but comfortable with attractive furnishings and adequate bathrooms. Many feature balconies with pleasant views of the lively pedestrian street (these are larger and brighter while the interiors ones are quieter).

A lively café overlooks the street, and the most elegant rooftop restaurant offers buffet and a la carte service with panoramic views of the city. Also the viewpoint terrace on the 5th floor offers wonderful views and live music shows at night.

The hotel's mezzanine features a small swimming-pool where, some nights, synchronised swimming ballet is offered as well as bar service.
