Hotel Acuario stands facing the sea inside Marina Hemingway, Havana´s large marina, which is named after the American writer because of the Blue Marlin tournament he started many years ago. The Torneo Internacional de Pesca de la Aguja Ernest Hemingway still takes place at the marina every year.
The hotel was conceived for those who would come to the island in their own boats and, of course, those who participate in the contest. Its location is therefore not ideal for exploring the city, since Marina Hemingway is some 30 minutes from downtown and away from all the happenings.
Even though the hotel provides a free shuttle to the closest stop of the hop-on, hop-off, open-topped tourist bus, it is still not very practical or efficient and guests spend too much time getting to and from the city´s attractions.
On top of this inconvenience, it must be said the hotel is not well maintained. Various problems can be found in the rooms and bathrooms, from a balcony door that can’t be opened nor closed to safes that don´t work, and many plumbing issues.
However, if other hotels are not available and one is aware of these problems but still needs a place to sleep, if the biggest part of the day will be spent in the city and most meals will be eaten elsewhere, and if one doesn´t want to spend a lot on lodging, Hotel Acuario can provide cheap and safe accommodation in a pretty setting.
In the complex there are also a large swimming pool and in the Marina there are several shops, restaurants and other services.
