Inaugurated in 1998, the Botanical Garden covers 62 hectares that are part of the network of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment aimed at providing information on the regional ecosystems of Cuba, housing some 1,300 endemic and exotic plant species and finding plants of the different soils of the province including trees, flowers and tropical fruits. It is still in growth aspiring to be able to gather up to six thousand species in it.
