Attractions in Cayo Coco & Guillermo

Ciego de Avila city

It lies at a distance of 70 kilometers from Coco Cay. It was founded just in 1840 making it the youngest of all provincial capitals in the country.

According to the population census of 2012, it has 146 thousand inhabitants and while its antiquity is negligible when compared to other Cuban metropolitan areas, it does feature a few colonial jewels in its architecture that might be of interest to the traveler. It was branded with the nickname City of Porches, on account of the abundance of this architectonic attribute flanking its streets.

Recommended sites of interest:

Provincial Museum: One of its rooms is dedicated to the famous Trocha Júcaro–Morón (a famous barrier of barbed wires and fortalices serving as an emplacement for the Spanish colonialists to try and hold back the impetuous troops of the mambises in their quest for independence.)

Museum of Fine Arts: Inaugurated in 1930, it offers visitors the possibility of admiring important collections of furniture, chinaware, porcelains, precious stones and goldsmithing.
