The Palacio O’Farril is an atmospheric hotel well located within Old Havana with 38 rooms and a cozy inner courtyard with a very old well, an underground original “aljibe” (a cistern, a reservoir of water) and a magnificent skylight on top of it enabling the use of this area, which is the core of the mansion, even during the rainy days.
The Hotel Palacio O’Farril used to be the house of Don José Ricardo O`Farrill, the great-grandson of the Irish Don Ricardo O’Farrill and O’Daly, who founded one of the wealthiest families of the nobility in the colonial times.
The influence from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries on the architecture and decoration is respectively reflected in each one of the three floors of the hotel and its rooms, causing an unusual mix that provides guests with the opportunity to enjoy the experience of exploring three centuries at the same time.
Rooms are spacious and spartan (which is an additional atmospheric touch) and outside them, in each floor, there is an attractive sitting area with époque related furnishing to sit and read, chat or have a coffee amidst tropical plants tended in earthen jars.
The atrium snack bar “Chico O’Farril”, is a welcoming corner decorated with jazz allegories and boasts on one of its walls a hand written thankful note from a nowadays’ O’Farrill descendant who is a jazz musician living in New York.
The Palacio O’Farrill is popular among families traveling with children, due to its big rooms as well as its connecting rooms, which provide the comfort of having privacy, space and supervision of the kids.
