The hotel El Castillo stands atop a marine terrace that looms 40 meters above the city, offering a bird-eye view of the beautiful surroundings,by the east side of the bay of Baracoa.
This hotel, built in Spanish-colonial style on the foundations of the ancient Castillo de Seboruco de Santa Bárbara(1739), is reached by a winding driveway or a 85-step staircase. Parts of the castle walls, including a turret, remain.
The rooms, set around the picture-perfect pool, are colonial styled, with lofty ceilings, terra-cota-tiled floors and furniture carved from cedar by local craftsmen.
The swimming pool and sundeck offer stupendous views towards, as well as the tavern-bar, which overlooks the bay and Rio Miel (Honey River).
