Playa Pesquero Hotel is an all-inclusive property in Holguin with more than 900 rooms that can accommodate over 2000 guests. The resort is simply huge which sometimes can act against it. You will find evaluations with complaints about long distances and walking distance to the beach. Electrical carts are available but may be insufficient at times and take some time to pick you up and cannot be booked in advance. A hotel greatly populated by Canadian tour operators, at its full capacity, service can be affected, short on waiters, slower service.
This said, you will find a vast lobby in an Asian-style with fish ponds all around and a 1924 steam train standing outside, as a peculiar decorative detail. The rooms are arranged in lively Caribbean colors with sponge-washed walls, bright fabrics, sharp bathrooms and a contemporary neoclassical chic. Eight of its rooms are specially appointed for the handicapped. Rooms are spacious and clean in general. Grounds are well kept and secured by security guards 24/7.
The complex has a pretty and vast freeform pool and of course, there is the beach. Many reviews seem to coincide on the fact that the Kid Club is a bit poor for a hotel of its ranking. But, on the other hand, if travelling with children, lots of sports activities are organized during all day which will keep the little entertained. Parents and adult companions are welcome to participate alongside.
The area around the pool is lively in the afternoons and the disco opens its doors around 11 pm.
From the available excursions at the tourism desk, swimming with dolphins is really great but for a price.
Food and restaurants: Quite some contradictory reviews and feedback on this point. This is quite usual though when it comes to Cuba hotels. Some negative points may be not finding a large selection of vegetables or fruit at times, some non-air conditioned restaurants, slow service when full and not enough variety if staying several days. However, you will always find several choices to choose from, normally, plenty sea food, chicken, pork and beef. Book the a la carte restaurants early! Preferably at your check in as it be hard to find availability and book later on.
