Casa de Vicente García González

The residence of Major General Vicente García, a preeminent patriot of the region from the days of the struggles of emancipation from Spanish dominion. The site houses a museum that treasures countless documents, weapons and wide-ranging utensils connected to the life of the hero.

The construction boasts more than two centuries of history since it was built in the year 1800. In 1876, at the time of the capture of the city by Cuban independence fighters, Vicente García himself proceeded to torch his property and then burn the city down rather than deliver it to the colonialists bent on retaking it.

For its historical relevance the house was declared National Monument by the Cuban state in 1996.
